Ghaem earned 8 points to clinchthe title. GM Reefat Bin Sattar of Biman and are GM Nguyen Anh Dung ofVitenam earned 7½ points each. Reefat Bin Sattar became runner-up in thetie-breaking system and Nguyen became 3rd. IM Abdullah Al Rakib of Bimanbecame 4th position. Three players earned 6 points each. their positionwith are 5th- FM Sk. Nasir Ahmed of Destiny, 6th- IM Enamul Hossain Razibof Chittagong Mohammedan and 7th-IM Mahmood Lodhi of Pakistan. 3 playersearned 5½ points each. Their positions are: 8th-IM P.D.S. Independence & National Day Active Chess Tournament -2007

IM Enamul Hossain Razib of Chittagong Mohammedan became unbeaten champion in the Independence & National Day Active Chess Tournament organised byBangladesh Chess Federation which was held yesterday (Friday) at Chess Federation hall-room. Razib earned 6 points out of 7 games. FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman Emon of B.A.D.C. became 2nd and FM Taibur Rahman of Destiny2000 Limited became 3rd with 6 points each. The event was held in a SwissLeague system. Total 42 players participated and cash prizes given to the winners.

Independence & National Day Active Chess Tournament organised by
Bangladesh Chess Federation will be held tomorrow (Friday) from 10:30 PM.It's an open event for all chess players. IWM Rani Hamid retained her championship by beating Shirin in Play-off match. Shirin played extremely well in this championship and tied for the championship. She even won 1st game in the play-off match but very experienced Rani Hamid equalised in the second game and won the sudden death game. Probably Shirin succumbed to the tension of such a struggle. But one has to give Rani Hamid her due credit. She also played very well as always. The young up-coming women players have a lot to learn from this amazing chess icon of Bangladesh Chess. Fide Master Mehdi Hasan Parag of Bangladesh caused the biggest upset of the day when he got a quick victory against Grandmaster Oliver Renet of France in the first round of the Kolkata Open 07- Grandmaster Chess Tournament being organized by Alekhine Chess Club at Gorky Sadan, Kolkata. The games of the event begun from yesterday (Sunday). Total 86 players including 21 grandmasters, 23 International Masters, 4 Women Grandmasters, 1 Women International Masters and 6 FIDE Masters from 16 countries are participating in the event. GM Niaz Murshed won his first round game. IM Enamul Hossain Razib, IM Abdullah Al Rakib and FM Abu Sufian Shakil drew with their 1st round game. GM Ziaur Rahman lost his 1st round game against Somok Palit of India. The event will be held in a 10 round Swiss-League system. Leading players of the event GM Sergey Tiviakov from Netherlands, GM Sadvakasov from Kazakistan, GM Levan Pantsulaia of Georgia, and GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly are also participating.

After 6th round of the junior championship, Liza is leading the tournament. She scored 6 out of 6 to take the sole lead. In this round she beat Sharif who recently won Dhaka district championship with a score of 7 out of 7! This is another moment for the Bangladesh Women chess if this girl can win the Junior championship which was never won by any female player ever in our country. The other turning point of women chess of Bangladesh was when she won the sub-junior (under 16) championship two years back. She also won the women championship in 2005 at the age of 15 and this year she took the best women prize (jointly) in the strong Delhi GM tournament.She needs much more exposure to become a strong chess player.Tomorrow could be the deciding day of the tournament if she is to play against Sagar the very talented and number one seed of the touranment.
