Preliminary Phase of the Aromatic Gold 29th National Women Chess Championship, sponsored by Marico Bangladesh Limited began 8th February at the chess hall-room of Bangladesh Chess Federation. 42 women and girls from Dhaka City and other 6 districts are participating in the event. 21 players won their 1st round games and earned maximum point including Shamima Akter Liza, Nazrana Kahan Eva, Zakia Sulatan, Masuda Begum, Shamiha Sharmin Shimmi, Arifa Khatun Moni, Mimi Arjuman, Hamida Rahman and rokshana Titli. 8 players from Preliminary phase will qualify in the final phase. Reigning Woman Champion IWM Rani Hamid,runner up Sharmin Sultana Shirin, Syeda Shabana Parveen Nipa and Tanima Parveen will directly participate the final phase.

Aromatic Gold 29th National Women Chess Championship-2008, Preliminary Phase

The Priliminary Phase of the Aromatic Gold 29th National Chess Championship, sponsored by Marico Bangladesh Limited will start on 8th February 2008 Friday from 3:00 PM at the hall-room of Bangladesh Chess Federation. It is an open event for all women and girls. Entry fees are not required.Interested women and girls can enroll their name on or before 7th January at Bangladesh Chess Federation office (Chess Room, 2nd Floor, National Sports Council, 62/3 Puarana Paltan, Dhaka-1000). The event will be held in Swiss-League system and 8 players will qualify in the final phase from preliminary phase. Reigning champion IWM Rani Hamid, Runner-up Sharmin Sultana Shirin, WFM Syeda Shabana Parven Nipa and WFM Tanima Parveen will directly participate in the final phase.

IWM Rani Hamid retained her championship by beating Shirin in Play-off match. Shirin played extremely well in this championship and tied for the championship. She even won 1st game in the play-off match but very experienced Rani Hamid equalised in the second game and won the sudden death game. Probably Shirin succumbed to the tension of such a struggle. But one has to give Rani Hamid her due credit. She also played very well as always. The young up-coming women players have a lot to learn from this amazing chess icon of Bangladesh Chess. In other play-off match for 7th positionNazrana Khan Eva beat Masuda Begum. In the 1st round Shirin beat Titli, Annie beat Mahfuza, Evana beat Suraiya and Mimi beat Madhavi. 8 players will qualify in the final phase. 4 players, reigning woman champion IWM Rani Hamid, runner-up Nazrana Khan Eva,rated Shamima Akter Liza and Masuda Begum will participate directly in thefinal phase. 2nd round games will start today (Saturday) from 3:30 PM atthe same venue.
