29th National Junior Chess Championship

29th National Junior (Under-20 years) Chess Championship, organized by Bangladesh Chess Federation will start from 30th January 2008, Wednesday from 3:00 PM at the hall-room of Bangladesh Chess Federation. It is an open event for all under 20 years old boys and girls. Entry fee is not required. Interested boys and girls can enroll their name with age certificate from their educational institution on or before 28th January at Bangladesh Chess Federation office (2nd Floor, National Sports Council, 62/3 Puarana Paltan, Dhaka-1000). Interested players from district can also enroll their name with letter from their District Sports Association. The event will be ehdl in 9 round Swiss-League system.

Abdullah Al Saif became champion in the National Sub-Junior Chess Championship. Saif beat Mosabbir Khan Shiblu of Narayangonj in play-off match by 2-0 .

Sub-Junior:Round 9

Abdullah Al Saif of Dhaka and Mosabbir Khan Shiblu of Narayangonj earned 7½ points and are now jointly leading the point table after end of the 9th or last round of 28th National Sub-Junior Chess Championship.Saif and Shiblu will play play-off match tonight according to the tournament rules for the championship. 3 players earned 7 points each and their positions are: 3rd-Nazmus Shakib of Kushtia, 4th-Rakib Hasan Rana and 5th- Masudur Rahman of Magura. Arifa Khatun Moni became 1st in the girls section with 6½ points. Tahmina Akter Tisha became 2nd and Tanzina Akter Tani became 3rd with 6 points in the girls section. Total 79 players from Dhaka and several districts participated in the event.

Metropolis Selection Chess -2008

Metropolis Selection Chess Tournament-2008, organized by Bangladesh Chess Federation will start from 19th January Saturday 3:00 PM at the hall-room of Bangladesh Chess Federation. It’s an open event for unrated and below 2100 rated players. Interested players can enroll their name on or before 17th January (Thursday) at Bangladesh Chess Federation Office (2nd Floor, National Sports Council, 62/3 Purana Paltan, Dhaka-1000) with entry fee. The event will be held in 9 round Swiss-League system and top 16 players will qualify in the Preliminary Phase (National B) of the 34th National Chess Championship.

The games of the 28th National Sub-Junior (Under-16 years) Boys and Girls Chess Championship-2008 began yesterday (Wednesday) at the Bangladesh Chess Federation hall-room. Over 80 under 16 years boys and girls including 5 rated and 13 girls from Dhaka, Naryangonj, Gazipur, Chittagong, Khulna,Rajshahi, Magura, Norail are participating in the event. 39 players won their first round games. Hastings Chess Congress

The Celebration 83rd Hastings International Congress took place from 28th December 2007 to 6th January 2008. There was a three way tie between Vadim Malakhatko Nidjat Mamedov and Veleriy Neverov on 7.5/10.Three Bangladeshi players participated in the tournament.They are FM Kh. Aminul Islam,FM Abu Sufian Shakil,FM Mehedi Hasan Parag.FM Aminul became 22nd with 6 points.FM Abu Sufian became 40th with 5.5 points.FM Mehedi Hasan became 49th with 5 points.

Biman chmpion in 1st Division Chess League

Bangladesh Biman became champion in the Dutch-Bangla Bank 1st Division Chess League-2007. Biman earned total 44½ points to clinch the title. In the last round Biman beat Mohakhali Prodip Sangah by 4-0 points. Leonine Chess Club became runners-up. They earned 43 points. Destiny 2000 Limited became 3rd and Chittagong Mohammedan Sporting Club became 4th position. Destiny and Chittagong Mohammedan earned 38½ points each. In the last round: Leonine beat Dhaka University Chess Club by 3-1 points, Destiny beat i2 soft Solution Ltd. by 3-1 points and Chittagong Mohammedan beat Sonali Bank by 2½-1½ points.
