FM Mehdi Hasan Parag of Biman became champion in the 3rd Greenwich University Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament, organized by Overseas School of Chess held at the Conference-Room and Chess hall-room of National Sports Council. Parag earned 8 points to clinch the title. His teammate FM Abu Sufian Shakil became runner-up with same points. National Sub-Junior Champion Abdullah Al Saif became 3rd with 7½ points. 6 players earned 7 points each. Their position are: 4th-Mohammad Ali of Chittagong Mohammadan, 5th-Sohel Chowdhury of Pritam Prijam, 6th-FM Mohammad Javed of Destiny, 7th-National Junior Champion FM Minhazuddin Ahmed of Destiny, 8th-Abdul Majed of Farashgonj and 9th-Arman Monir of Pritam Prijam. 10 players earned 6½ points each. Their positions are: 10th-Mahtabuddin Ahmed Robin, 11th-Anisuzzaman Mallik, 12th- Mohammad Shameem.13th-Masudur Rahman Bari, 14th-Sk. Rashedul Hasam, 15th-Samima Aketr Liza, 16th-Mohammad Nazrul Islam, 17th-Sk. Khairul Islam 18th-Abul Kashem Al-Shahid and 19th –Shamim Khan, Karol Chowdhury became 20th with 6 points, Best Unrated players Amin and Zohirul Alam, Best woman Amina Khatun, Best-Sub-Junior Ikramul Haque Siam and Mohammad Fahim and Best over 50 years is Hanif Mollah. 9th or last round games were held yesterday (Friday). In the last round games: Parag beat Ali, Shakil beat Sohel, Saif beat Robin, Armanbeat Liza, Sagar beat Shahin, Javed beat Shabab and Majed beat Karol. The Prize distribution ceremony will be held today (Saturday) from 4:30 PM at the Conference-Room of National Sports Council. Honorable Secretary of the Ministry of Youth & Sports of the Bangladesh Government Dr. Golam Moshtafa Talukder will distribute prizes among the winners.
