Mercantile Bank 33rd National Chess Championship-2007



NEW BANGLADESH CHAMPION, 2007 & GRAND MASTER!!

IM Enamul Hossain Razib of Chittagong Mohammadan became Runner-up and GM Ziaur Rahman of Biman became 3rd in the Mercantile Bank 33rd National ChessChampionship-2007 held at the chess hall-room of the National Sports Council. Razib beat Zia 1.5-.5 points in play-off match. The play-off matches were held yesterday (Monday) at Chess Federation Hall-room. GM Niaz Murshed of Leonine became 6th and FM Taibur Rahman of Destiny became 7th.Niaz beat Taibur in play-off match. FM Sk. Nasir Ahmed of Destiny became10th to beat his teammate Mohammad Jeved in play-off match. Javed became 11th. The Prize distribution ceremony of the event will be held today(Tuesday) from 5:00 PM at the conference-room of National Sports Council.Honorable Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed will distribute prizes among the winners.
IM Abdullah Al Rakib of Biman became champion in the Mercantile Bank 33rdNational Chess Championship-2007 held at the chess hall-room of the National Sports Council. Rakib earned 11 points out of 13 games to clinch the title. Rakib also earned a 13 round grandmaster norm and becomes the country's 4th Grand Master.He earned the GM norm by 2618 rating performance. This is the first time Rakib became national champion. GM Ziaur Rahman of Biman and IM Enamul HossainRazib of Chittagong Mohammadan earned 9½ points each. Zia and Razib will play play-off match today (Monday) against each other for Runner-up and 3rd position. Khandkar Aminul Islam earned 8½ to become 4th. GM Reefat Bin Sattar of Biman earned 8 and became 5th.GM Niaz Murshed of Leonine and FM Taibur Rahman earned 7 points each. Niaz and Taibur will play play-off match for 6th and 7th position. Independence & National Day Active Chess Tournament -2007

IM Enamul Hossain Razib of Chittagong Mohammedan became unbeaten champion in the Independence & National Day Active Chess Tournament organised byBangladesh Chess Federation which was held yesterday (Friday) at Chess Federation hall-room. Razib earned 6 points out of 7 games. FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman Emon of B.A.D.C. became 2nd and FM Taibur Rahman of Destiny2000 Limited became 3rd with 6 points each. The event was held in a SwissLeague system. Total 42 players participated and cash prizes given to the winners.

Independence & National Day Active Chess Tournament organised by
Bangladesh Chess Federation will be held tomorrow (Friday) from 10:30 PM.It's an open event for all chess players. Interested players can enroll their name today (Thursday) or tomorrow before the start of the event. The event will be held in a Swiss League system and cash Prize will be given to the winners.

IWM Rani Hamid retained her championship by beating Shirin in Play-off match. Shirin played extremely well in this championship and tied for the championship. She even won 1st game in the play-off match but very experienced Rani Hamid equalised in the second game and won the sudden death game. Probably Shirin succumbed to the tension of such a struggle. But one has to give Rani Hamid her due credit. She also played very well as always. The young up-coming women players have a lot to learn from this amazing chess icon of Bangladesh Chess.
