Rapid Chess tournament sponsored by Spain Probashi Daba Samaj with the assistance of Bangladesh Chess Federation will start on Friday at 10:00 AM at the chess hall-room. It's an open event for all chess players. Interested chess players can enroll their name with one hundred fifty taka entry fee (Lunch is included) on or before 19th February Thursday at the hall-room of Bangladesh Chess Federation. FIDE Master Minhazuddin Ahmed Sagar of Destiny 2000 Limited became unbeaten champion in the BASIC BANK 30th National Junior (Under-20 years) Boy & Girls Chess Championship-2009, sponsored by BASIC Bank Limited which was held at Bangladesh Chess Federation hall-room. Sagar earned 8½ points to clinch the Junior title.Woman Runner-up Shamima Akter Liza of Overseas School became runner-up with 8 points. The championship saw race between Sagar and Liza. Sagar dropped 1/2 point early in the tournament and Liza took the lead till they eventually met in round seven which turned out to be the decisive game for the title. In Sicilian Taimanov Liza saced a pawn with black pieces to gain some initiative on the king side which became decisive due to Sagar's uncertain play but in time pressure Liza failed to deliver the final blow and after further mistakes she ended up in a lost position which Sagar exploited by exact play to pull off the game and effectively the title.

Destiny 2000 Limited became champion in the Dutch-Bangla Bank 1^st Division Chess League-2008, sponsored by Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited which was held at the hall-room of Bangladesh Chess Federation. 14^th round games were held yesterday (Friday). Destiny 2000 earned 52½ points to clinch the Dutch-Bangla Bank 1^st Division Chess League title for 2008. 1^st time Destiny 2000 won the 1^st Division Chess League title. 15^th or last round games were held (Saturday). In the last round games Destiny 2000 drew with Dhaka Metropolitan Chess Club by 2-2 points. Players of Destiny Limited are: GM Enamul Hossain, FM Sk. Mr. Syed Shujauddin Ahmed, former President of Bangladesh Chess Federation presided the ceremony and Mr. Monzur Hossain Zimmu, General Secretary of Leonine Chess Club gave address in the ceremony. Total 127 chess players participated in the event and cash prizes given to the winners.

Enamul Hossain Razib has achieved his 3rd GM norm from the Final Phase of the 34th National Chess Cahmpionship-2008. He beat GM Reefat Bin Sattar in the last round to achieve the final norm. The final game continued in the Classical system of French defence and Razib,playing with white pieces, won at 41st move. Razib got his first GM norm from the 35th Chess Olyampiad in Bled, Slovenia and 2nd one from Masters Chess Tournament in Abu Dhabi ,U.A.E.Now he has to just wait for the formal approval of FIDE to officially get the title.

World Chess Federation (FIDE) has published the 1st round fixture of the World Cup-2007 which will be held from 23rd November to 17th December in Khanty-Mansiysk in Russia. GM Ziaur Rahman(2497) will play against GM Dmitry Jakovenko of Russia. Jakovenko’s current rating is 2710 and he is a member of Russian national chess team. IM Enamul Hossain Razib(2514) will play against GM Pavel Eljanov of Ukraine. Eljanov’s rating is 2691 and he is also a member of the Ukrainian national chess team. Total 128 top level players from all over the world will partcipate in the 1st round in knock-out basis. Razib qualified from 6th Asian Individual Championship, which was held in September in Philippines and Zia will play as a nominated player of the President of World Chess Federation, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

International Master Enamul Hossain Razib has Qualified himself for the World Cup Chess Championship which will be held in Russia from 23rd November to 17 December.Razib became 10th in the VI Asian Individual Chess Championship-2007 which was held at Cebu City in Philippines. Razib and other 9 players were qualified from this event.
